An ordinary errand, a handmade sign, and a reminder that small moments of goodness are often closer than we think.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Recently, on an ordinary day, I was running errands and came across a pop-up artisan market at the local mall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One sign immediately caught my attention. It spoke of ordinary days \u2014 the kind we so often overlook while rushing to get somewhere, finish something, or move on to something we think is more important or meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creator of the sign told me the phrase had come from her father-in-law, and that he was thrilled she had used it in her art. I told her I was glad she had too, and I brought it home with me as a reminder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to remember the words because I wanted to learn how to live them more fully. It is one thing to agree that ordinary days are a gift. It is another to actually feel that while standing in the middle of one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sign is now hanging in my laundry room, which feels like a fitting place for the reminder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, this has also become about letting small ordinary moments count emotionally. When a small moment of friendliness or beauty appears, I am learning not to let it pass by only as information. Like many of us, I notice the good, but I have not always learned how to let it sink in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our minds are naturally wired to notice problems more strongly than small moments that feel good or are safe. The nervous system tends to treat possible danger as more urgent than ordinary goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The value of taking in small amounts of goodness is that they are available far more often than big experiences, and they can be easier to trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small moments can arrive quietly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Feeling the support of the chair you are in
\u2022 Finishing a task, big or small
\u2022 Noticing a deep breath
\u2022 Seeing sunlight on a flower
\u2022 Hearing a bird<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These moments may seem too small to matter, especially when we are already looking ahead to the next thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am learning to acknowledge these small moments and let them land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little by little, they teach me that goodness is already here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
